The Canada Research Chair in the Environmental History of Québec undertakes research projects that analyze changes in Québec society and in its biogeophysical environment, as well as chart the nineteenth- and twentieth-century interactions between the two. In particular, research projects address two aspects of these interactions: land use and the exploitation of natural resources. Further, research projects examine three facets of these issues: (1) the circulation of materials and exchanges between the city and its hinterlands; (2) the sensible and sanitary relationships of the body to the environment; and, (3) the dynamics of the environments in which people live (milieu de vie).
